The Weight Lifters
Six-Week Death Loss Support Group for Men
Program Policies
-
The Weight Lifters is a six-week virtual grief support group for men who have experienced the death of someone important to them. The program is facilitated by Dewey Schott, a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) credentialed by the International Coach Federation.
This program is grief coaching and peer support. It is not psychotherapy, counseling, or clinical mental health treatment. Dewey Schott is not a licensed therapist, psychologist, or psychiatrist.
The group is designed to help participants develop four skills: sharing their grief, metabolizing grief, asking for support, and giving support. It is not intended to replace professional mental health care. Participants are encouraged to seek additional professional support as needed.
-
Confidentiality is a foundational commitment of The Weight Lifters. What is shared within the group stays within the group.
All participants agree to hold in strict confidence the identities, stories, and personal information shared by other group members. This commitment extends beyond the end of the program.
Dewey Schott will not share information disclosed in the group with any third party except in the following circumstances:
When disclosure is required by law (including mandated reporting obligations)
When a participant discloses information suggesting imminent risk of harm to themselves or others
When a participant provides explicit written consent for specific information to be shared
Participants understand that while Dewey upholds these standards, he cannot guarantee the confidentiality of other group members. Participation in a group setting involves an inherent degree of relational trust.
-
The program fee is $500 for the full six-week cohort. Payment is due in full upon registration confirmation, prior to the first session.
Limited sliding scale spots may be available. Please discuss with Dewey during your intake conversation. -
Intake conversation
Every participant has a brief intake conversation with Dewey before the group begins. You are welcome to schedule this call before or after registering — whichever feels right. If you register and pay before your intake call, your spot is reserved. If either you or Dewey determines during the call that this group isn’t the right fit, a full refund will be issued.
Participant cancellation
Full refunds are available for cancellations made at least 7 days before the program start date (April 28, 2026). No refunds will be issued for cancellations made fewer than 7 days before the start date.
Participants who cancel after the program begins are not entitled to a refund for sessions already held. At Dewey’s discretion, a credit toward a future cohort may be offered in cases of documented hardship or emergency.
Program cancellation
Dewey Schott Coaching reserves the right to cancel a cohort if minimum enrollment (5 participants) is not reached. In the event of program cancellation, all participants will receive a full refund within 5 business days.
In the event of an unforeseen circumstance requiring cancellation of an individual session, Dewey will make reasonable efforts to reschedule that session within the cohort period.
-
The Weight Lifters welcomes trans men, non-binary AMAB folks, and all who were socialized as men. This group welcomes grieving men of all sexual orientations, faith traditions, and spiritual backgrounds — including none. Respect for every member's identity is non-negotiable.
By registering for The Weight Lifters, participants agree to:
Attend all six sessions to the best of their ability, and notify Dewey in advance if they must miss a session
Participate actively and engage with the group’s shared commitments: sharing, metabolizing grief, asking for support, and giving support
Maintain the confidentiality of all group members
Treat all participants and facilitators with respect
Refrain from giving unsolicited advice, trying to fix other participants’ grief, or dominating group discussion
Refrain from attending sessions under the influence of alcohol or substances
Dewey Schott reserves the right to ask a participant to leave the program if their behavior is disruptive, harmful to other participants, or inconsistent with the group’s commitments. In such cases, a partial refund may be offered at Dewey’s discretion.
-
Sessions are held via Zoom. Participants are responsible for their own reliable internet connection and a private space from which to attend.
Sessions will be recorded solely so that any participant who misses a session can view it afterward. Recordings will be made available only to registered participants of the current cohort and will be deleted at the end of the program. By registering, participants consent to being recorded for this purpose.
Participants may not record, screenshot, or distribute any portion of the sessions on their own. Violation of this policy is grounds for removal from the program.
Participant information collected through the registration form is used solely for program administration and will not be shared with third parties.
